Recollections and Feelings on Sketching
From the very beginning of my learning for painting in 1970s, I had fallen in love with sketching. I remember that my first sketch was horse painting, and I was a little nervous when I first sketched a real alive horse, which was totally different from the horse copying from the book. When I finished the painting of horse with trembling hands, I was praised and encouraged by many uncles, which made me more interested in sketching. Nearly every day after school, I went out to draw the horses and carriages, and the uncles who drove the carriages often asked me for my paintings of horses, and I was always very happy to gave it to them, because this was an affirmation to my painting of horses, while they often gave me some tomatoes and cucumbers as an encourage. From then on, my passion for sketching went out of hand and my painting career was opened ......
From the various dynamic sketch of horses, I came to realize that observation capability should be both fast and accurate. I remembered the horse dynamic deeply in mind, just like taking photos from one frame to another by a camera, which had a great influence on my future landscape painting. My sketch is to turn the objective nature into my subjective consciousness and capture the subtle changes of light and color in the process of sketching. I like to express the momentary eternity and impression in my oil painting language!
